Why We Gather in Small Groups
Jesus' ministry concentrated on a small group of 12 disciples and that may have been one too many (Judas). After Jesus' death and resurrection, this small group of disciples, led by the Holy Spirit, would dramatically change the world. Small groups make up an important part of the ministry of Holy Trinity. We believe in small groups because most life changing decisions happen best in groups of 12 of less.

In Acts 5:42, the Bible says that "daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ." In Acts 20:20, Paul said that he "kept back nothing that was helpful, but proclaimed it to you, and taught you publicly and from house to house." The Bible pictures large gatherings of believers and small, intimate gatherings as well. Both are necessary. At Holy Trinity, we believe that a church needs to grow larger and smaller at the same time. It should grow larger through evangelism as more and more people come to Christ, but it should grow smaller as people are relationally connected in small groups.

We all need to be connected to others as we journey through what is often a fragmented world. Life change usually happens best in the context of a small group of caring, loving believers. Virtually all the ministry of a church (evangelism, fellowship, discipleship, worship, and ministry) can take place in a small group. Good pastoral care can take place in small groups believers care for one another. People who are not yet baptized and in a faith relationship with Jesus Christ can come and learn about Christianity in a non-threatening environment. God's plan for the church is to build a loving and united community within to reach the community without and share the life-giving message of love, forgiveness and eternal life with all.

Basic Elements of Small Group Ministry:

  • Small groups are built on authentic relationships.

  • Small groups speak the truth in love.

  • Small groups are places where people love each other and minister to one another's needs.

  • Small groups are places where spiritual growth takes place through intentional discipleship.

  • Small groups are places where people meet Jesus Christ or become re-acquainted with Him.

  • Small groups are places of prayer, mission and service.

  • Small groups are places where leaders and apprentices are developed.
Small groups foster the multiplication of disciples, leaders, and churches so that God's kingdom will be built to the glory of the Lord.

Benefits of being in a small group:

  • You will learn how to read and understand the Bible.

  • You will feel connected and a part of God's family.

  • You will learn how to tap the incredible power of prayer.

  • You may discover leadership skills you never knew you had.

  • You will learn how to worship and function like a New Testament Church.
